Askamore Tidy Towns group, as part of Askamore Community Council, has received a grant to help prevent and / or reduce waste in our homes and in the community. It was decided to apply for a grant to set up a community apple press, which will allow people to press their crop of apples and save it as either apple juice, cider, apple cider vinegar, or some other interesting uses.
There is to be a talk and demonstration next Monday night, September 10th, at 7.30 pm in Askamore Hall. Apple expert (and local man) Jim Lancaster will show us how to use the equipment that’s been purchased, while getting people to squeeze and juice their apples on the spot. You will need to bring a clean plastic bottle or two, and a small bag of apples. Jim will also guide us in the making of cider.
If you are not able to make next Monday night’s demo, Askamore Tidy Towns will soon be setting up a rota for using the apple press, and it will be available while there is a need for it. Watch the website and newsletter / newspaper for details.
There will be a further talk in October on using the press on a date to be announced.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
