Last night 26 teams took place in our annual car treasure hunt.

A total of 67 clues brought people around the back roads of Askamore and slightly further afield. Everyone got home safely!

The top 6 teams had to be separated by time difference, with Paula & Brian Buttle claiming victory. They had 65 correct answers in the quickets time. They won a voucher for two for a meal and wine, kindly sponsored by the Amber Springs Hotel, Gorey.

in 2nd place were Tommy Kehoe and family, Bolinrush.

3rd – Eamonn O’Neill and family

4th – Paddy and Catherine Byrne and family

5th – Jim Gilbert and family

6th – Mick and Maura Doran and family

Well done to all who took part and to all the prize-winners.

Féile Weekend

Tonight sees the start of Askamore Féile le Chéile proper, with the Madcaps performing in Askamore Community Centre at 8.30pm, followed by a Trad Session with Jack Kilbride and friends in the School House Bar.

Tomorrow, the annual Car Treasure Hunt will start from the Community Centre at 7.15 pm. Results and prizes will be announced later in the Centre.

There is a social / céilí dance in the Centre tomorrow night, with music supplied by Paddy Wade. This starts at 9.30

Sunday at 5pm is our mass on Sliabh Bhuí. A guided walk will leave the carpark at 3.15 pm to make their way to the mass site, or it is possible this year to drive to the site and park there. Entry to the site for drivers is the entrance near Noel Bergin’s. Follow the signs.

Sunday night 9.30 pm is the Grand Final of the Brains of Askamore Table Quiz.

Come out and support your local festival.

Askamore Féile le Chéile 2012

Madcaps posterThis year’s Féile will take place on the weekend of July 20th to 22nd, with the Brains of Askamore table quiz qualifiers happening on the previous Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Féile le Chéile committee members will  have the tickets on sale for the Madcaps, (read more about them here) followed by the trad session with Jack Kilbride – a snip at €5 for attending both events.

Last year’s Brains of Askamore Table Quiz proved very successful, and was won by Joe Kenny Windowfitters team.

This year’s quiz will have the same format, with qualifying rounds on the previous Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. The 2 best teams each night, and the next 2 best teams over the 3 nights will send 8 teams into the Grand Final on Sunday 22nd. The qualifying rounds are standard table quiz format, but the quarter-finals, semis and final will follow match play format, which makes a very exciting and tense quiz.

If you or your business or organisation or just yourself and pals as a team of 4 would like to enter, please contact Davy Donohoe (086 0820146) by Friday, July 13th. Entry fee is €20 per team of 4.

Féile le Chéile Committee: Jim Gilbert, Stacy Gilbert, Mary Walsh, Mary Donohoe, Davy Donohoe, Paddy Byrne.

Mass on Sliabh Bhuí will be in a slightly different venue this year, with Fr. Joe Power celebrating. Details of the location and how to get there will be announced later and it is once again hoped that a large number of people will walk to the venue.

Askamore Foróige

Askamore Foróige has been very busy over the past few months. These are some of our activities:

Christmas disco in Boolavogue – lots of fun and games

Our committee attended a regional conference in Gorey, learned a lot and then chilled out at Gravity in Courtown

We went to the cinema in Gorey. We saw Jack and Jill. We all loved it and liked the chips on the way home

Here are some photos from last year and the year before of sports day held in Carlow and the treasure hunt and disco held in Askamore for the primary school kids.
