Concern about Grid Link Proposal through Local Area

Millrace Hotel, Bunclody

1pm – 8pm

Friday 20th September

Further Details: www.eirgridprojects.com/projects/gridlink/overview/

The Grid Link Project is an estimated €500 million investment in the national electricity grid linking Leinster and Munster. The project consists of a new high voltage overhead power line linking Knockraha in Co. Cork to Great Island in Co. Wexford to Dunstown, near Kilcullen, in Co. Kildare ensuring a reliable and high quality electricity supply for homes, farms and businesses in the south and east region for the future.

There has been a process already in place for a long time and 4 possible routes for the Grid have been identified. One of these curves in a semicircle from Shillelagh through Tombrean, Donishall, Kilrush as it heads for South Wexford.

EirGrid are holding an open day in Millrace Hotel, Bunclody from 1pm – 8pm on Friday 20th September. This is an important part of their consultation process to “identify a least constrained corridor”. According to EirGrid already during the second round of consultation, 278 stakeholders made submissions to the Grid Link Project team. These submissions were made by phone, email, post and at the Grid Link Information Centres, open days and briefings.

Eirgrid have (on their website and elsewhere) put forward an enormous amount of information claiming that:

a) the project is necessary
b) the overhead grid lines pose absolutely no health risk
c) EirGrid has only got the best interests of the people in mind and
d) they want feedback from everyone involved or affected.

As this project may go ahead in our area, please visit Bunclody on Friday, ask loads of questions and form your own opinion. A number of us are very concerned about what is being proposed.

Best Words Best Order

A Reading Poetry Workshop will take place in the Millrace Hotel Bunclody on Saturday, September 8 from 10am to 4pm.

“Poetry is the best words in the best order” – Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Everyone has a relationship with poetry. We encounter it in the classroom and it speaks to us at different times throughout the rest of our lives.

In this one-day Poetry Workshop it is hoped that our understanding of poetry will be deepened and enhanced. The workshop will explore and discuss aspects of poetry including rhythm, rhyme, imagery, structure, voice.

The poets featured will include a wide variety of Irish and other nationality poets. But above all it will explore why poetry matters.

A place on the workshop can be booked by emailing ckworkshops@yahoo.co.uk.

The workshop will cost €30 and will be hosted by Niall MacMonagle.
