Brains of Askamore – draw for quarter-finals

Following last night’s very successful conclusion of the qualifying rounds of the Brains of Askamore Table Quiz, which had 37 competing teams, the line-up for the quarter finals on Sunday night next is as follows:

9.30: Kenny Windowfitters v Askamore Community Council

9.50: Vintage v 3 Wise Men

10.15: ACE v The Choir

10.40: The Well v Pat Donohoe Lime

The winners of the first and second quarter-finals will then meet in the 1st semi-final, and the winners of the third and fourth quarter-finals will meet in the 2nd semi-final, which should be at 11.15.

Final will then take place.

The format for theses rounds is match-play, with each team getting 18 questions which will be strictly time-limited.

Brains of Askamore Table Quiz – Round 3 results

Great turn-out again of 14 teams last night saw an even closer contest with The Well coming out on top with 59 points out of a possible 60.

4 teams who scored 58 played off for the second qualifying spot on the night – Kilcavan Poker School, aka Byrne Videos, Pat Donohoe Lime, the Choir and the 3 Wise Men, wit the Choir team taking the 6th place.

There then had to be a further tie-break to separate out the qualifiers for 7th and 8th places and the final line-up is as follows:

Brains of Askamore Table Quiz – Round 2 results

Great turn-out of 14 teams last night saw a very close contest with Askamore Community Education (ACE)’s team and holders Kenny Windows both qualiying for the final on a score of 59 out of 60 points.

They will join the Vintage and Community Council teams from last Sunday night’s qualifiers.

Also from last night the team representing the Badminton Club are now leading the teams looking for 7th / 8th place finishes, with a score of 58 points.

There are 13 teams registered for the last qualifier on Thursday night, we can still squeeze in another team if you’d like to come along.

Brains of Askamore quiz – Round 2 tonight

We have 11 teams competing tonight in the 2nd round of our Brains of Askamore table quiz. The top 2 teams will qualify each night, with the best 2 teams from over the 3 nights making up the final 8 for the Grand Final on Sunday night next.

Féíle le Chéíle quiz – 1st round tonight

There are 10 teams in the 1st round of The Brains of Askamore Table Quiz, beginning tonight in the Centre at 9.30. The top 2 teams, and possibly a third team also, will qualify for next Sunday’s grand final.

There are still places available in the next two qualifying rounds on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

Askamore Féile le Chéile 2012

Madcaps posterThis year’s Féile will take place on the weekend of July 20th to 22nd, with the Brains of Askamore table quiz qualifiers happening on the previous Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Féile le Chéile committee members will  have the tickets on sale for the Madcaps, (read more about them here) followed by the trad session with Jack Kilbride – a snip at €5 for attending both events.

Last year’s Brains of Askamore Table Quiz proved very successful, and was won by Joe Kenny Windowfitters team.

This year’s quiz will have the same format, with qualifying rounds on the previous Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. The 2 best teams each night, and the next 2 best teams over the 3 nights will send 8 teams into the Grand Final on Sunday 22nd. The qualifying rounds are standard table quiz format, but the quarter-finals, semis and final will follow match play format, which makes a very exciting and tense quiz.

Mass on Sliabh Bhuí will be in a slightly different venue this year, with Fr. Joe Power celebrating. Details of the location and how to get there will be announced later and it is once again hoped that a large number of people will walk to the venue.
