Every Tuesday night until mid September, a group of locals meets from 7 pm to help improve the look of the village of Askamore. There are always jobs to be done, from litter-picking to gate painting, general tidying of verges / ditches etc.

The local community garden is based in the garden of the priest’s house and everyone is welcome to come help with planting, sowing, maintenance and many other projects.

There’s always a cuppa afterwards for everyone in the kitchen of the priest’s house and the work is always sociable – work with a bit of craic thrown in.

Everyone is welcome at any time to join in.

The above website allows you to volunteer your services online, or just turn up at the car park or the priest’s house every Tuesday. You won’t be sent away!

Spring Clean Askamore 2015

spring cleanAskamore Community Council members are organising their own areas over the weekend to ensure we have a major spruce-up of our parish
Bags, gloves and pickers are available and your local council members will have them available for you.
The County Council will then collect all litter we gather in our various areas. So all bags need to be left behind the priest’s house before Monday evening next.
After that we will concentrate on the 2K around Askamore as well as getting some of the rubbish dumped around the hill walks. Tuesday evening next (21st) we will start on the 2K clean-up in and around Askamore.

Askamore GIY group had a great turnout this morning in Askamore to see the making, filling and planting of our 2 new raised beds in the garden of the priest’s house in Askamore.

Thanks to all who came and helped out with planting. Keep an eye on this website and the local notes for further information re setting up a community garden group.

Thanks to Paddy Byrne, Brideswell for screwing the beds together for us.

Special thanks to Fr. Joe Power for permission to use the garden.

Also special thanks and best wishes for a speedy recovery to Betty (Lancaster) Kehoe who set us on this path.

Potatoes, onions, shallots, garlic and rhubarb were planted this morning.
