The annual Carnew St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes place on Friday 17th March at 1 o’ clock. The parade has gone from strength to strength since it began and once again promises to be an enjoyable family event this year. Local businesses and groups are encouraged to join the parade and help to make it the best parade yet. Parade Categories include: Best Overall Float, Most Entertaining, Most Topical, Best Youth Entry, Best Walking Group and Best Window Display. Entry forms are available from Carnew TDC, Victor’s Newsagents and Candys.
The Grand Marshall this year is community man, Edward Dowse. Edward has served as Church Warden and been a member of the Select Vestry. He is a member of the Carnew Ploughing Society and the current Chairman of the Wicklow County Ploughing Associataion. Edward will be bringing his collection of Nuffield tractors which he has restored himself to the parade, one of which he used to win a National Ploughing title.
The presentation of prizes will take place after the parade in Coláiste Bhríde.
Volunteers are needed to help out on the day to put out barriers in the morning and collect them after the parade, to steward and to help with teas in Coláiste Bhríde afterwards. Volunteers are asked to contact Carnew TDC if available to help for an hour or so on the day. Donations of buns, cakes, tarts etc would also be greatly appreciated and can be left in to Carnew TDC on Thursday 16th March or in to Coláiste Bhríde on the morning of the parade.
