Askamore’s new addition to its existing 3 looped walks, the St. Brigid’s Loop, will be introduced to locals and visitors alike this weekend, Saturday 24th, when it becomes a feature walk as part of Wexford Walking Trails Festival 2016.
Registration takes place at the Community Centre at 10.30 am on Saturday morning, and the 10km walk will start at 11 am. The start of the walk follows the same route up the Hill Road as the existing 3 trails, and then branches back along Sliabh Gower and back to Askamore via the road.
As part of the festival experience, we will have two locals telling some of our local stories. Maire Deegan Kavanagh will talk about her aunt’s involvement in the 1916 Rising, and other family history stories, and Marcella Byrne will talk about the archaeological and historical significance of the famine graveyard and St. Brigid’s Well areas of Askamore.
A light lunch will be served in the Community Centre following the walk.
All are welcome, but come prepared for the weather and the 10km terrain.
There are also walks in Enniscorthy and Bunclody on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so check out the brochure below for details.
