Grow it Yourself Ireland and AIB have got together to fund community projects.
Following a recent talk and advice given by Betty (Lancaster) Kehoe, who is involved in GIY in Co. Wexford, Askamore Community Council has applied for the above funding to set up a community garden in the new park. There is a possibility of funding up to €5000 in one year, and a further €5000 if the initial project is successful.
The Community Council has applied for funding for a polytunnel, raised beds, plants and to provide for tutors to give expert advice.
Applications closed today, so fingers crossed that we will be successful and be able to provide facilities to anyone in the community who would like to learn to grow their own fruit and veg.
The Grow It Yourself movement has a great website – check it out here.
